A Mighty Fortress Is Our God

A Mighty Fortress Is Our God

The hymn "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God" is a beloved one among Christians. It has been translated into many languages and is sung all over the world.

What is the fortress of God?

When David, hiding in the rocks and caves of the desert from Saul's attackers, says “God is my fortress,” he is saying, despite the absence of fortified walls, he is safe because of God.

Psalm 18: NIV. I love you, O LORD, my strength. The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

How mighty our God is

How mighty our God is! His fortress is impenetrable and His strength is incomparable. He is the ultimate defender and protector, and we can trust Him completely. When life gets tough and the enemy seems to be winning, we can take comfort in knowing that our God is mightier than anything we face.

What Scripture is a mighty fortress based on

A mighty fortress is our God is based on Psalm 46 in the Bible. This Psalm speaks of God being our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in times of trouble. When we are feeling weak or afraid, we can always turn to God for strength and comfort.

Importance of God as our fortress

When we face difficult times in life, it's important to remember that God is our fortress. He is always there for us, no matter what we are going through. In His presence, we find strength and comfort. We can trust Him to help us overcome any obstacle. When we focus on God, we can rest assured that He will take care of us. We don't have to worry about anything because we know that He is in control. His love for us is perfect, and He will never leave us alone.

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear.” (Psalm 46:1-2)

The battle to be fought is “not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places” (Ephesians 6:12). Satan, along with his henchmen, is an ancient foe, “a roaring lion,” as it were, “seeking whom he may devour” (1 Peter 5:8). But there is no need for alarm, “the LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge” (Psalm 46:11). “For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil” (1 John 3:8).

Only God could accomplish this victory, for Satan is “the prince of this world” (John 14:30), “the prince of the power of the air” (Ephesians 2:2), no man on Earth is his equal.
